Family finds forever home with Shared Ownership

Date Posted

When 53-year-old Louisa Kennedy decided that the time was right to buy a home for her and her twins, she knew that doing so in Epsom, where they were renting, was out of the question, due to the high cost of homes. She extended her search and still struggled to find something on the open market, but upon discovering the Shared Ownership scheme realised that this was her ticket into home ownership.

Through the scheme, Louisa was able to buy a three-bedroom house at Causeway Farm in Petersfield, Hampshire, providing plenty of space for her 16-year-old daughters. She explains what finding her dream home was like: “I’d struggled to find something in my price point for quite some time. I even looked as far away as the Midlands, but that would have meant starting from scratch somewhere entirely new, which I wasn’t too sure given my daughters’ ages.

“A friend of mine used to live in Petersfield and always said how much she liked the area, and when I came to visit the development I could see why. We were given a tour of the site and worked out that my finances could stretch to a three-bedroom house, which meant my daughters could have their own rooms. They showed me plans to a double-fronted property which was exactly what I wanted, the type of house I would draw as a kid but never thought I could afford. We fell in love straight away.”

Louisa continues: “I work in central London, and though I haven’t done the commute yet, I know it’s very straightforward into Waterloo from here. We moved in just before the end of March and I was thrilled to have been able to do so; the team at Radian have been fantastic at helping me to complete before the lockdown came into effect, and during the build they kept me updated as I was buying off-plan. I never thought I’d end up with something like this, the kids are blown away and I’m so happy to call this home.”
