First-time buyer secures her new home with Shared Ownership
Rebecca decided that it was the right time to purchase a property on her own. Having spent a number of years living in the region, she was pleased to find out there was a Shared Ownership scheme available, just around the corner from her previous address. She now owns a 2-bedroom house at our Foxglove Meadows development in the bustling village of Hutton.
She explains: “When you’re looking to move out into a house of your own, finding somewhere that you can call your own becomes even more important to you. The familiarity, security and sense of belonging that comes with having your own space was the main driver for me when I was looking for my new home.
“Having spent a number of years in the area, I wanted to stay living somewhere close, to make the move easier to manage. After living in a larger property, I needed to downsize and find a place that was more practical for me (and my two cats).
After some searching, Rebecca discovered new homes at Foxglove Meadows while they were still under construction. She explains how Shared Ownership was a great option for her:
“Shared Ownership is something I’d never considered before but was an ideal option that allowed me to get on the property ladder for myself. I’d looked at other places on the open-market nearer to Bristol, but would have had to have bought a smaller apartment, with limited outdoor space. By buying through Shared Ownership, I’ve got the benefit of having all the small touches and the quality that goes into a new build. I didn’t have to do anything to my new home when I moved in.
“The extra space that comes with having two bedrooms means that I can welcome friends and family over, and there’s more room for when my partner comes to stay. The pandemic and lockdown means that I now spend a lot of time working from home, so having a garden and a well-looked after community to walk around means I can make the most of my surroundings without going too far from my front door."

“The location is ideal and I love the community that comes with it. I grew up in a small town in North Devon and the green space and wildlife at Foxglove Meadows reminds me of home there. The neighbours are friendly and there are community facilities and services within walking distance. Even better, it’s less than 10 minutes’ drive from Weston-super-Mare beach.
Rebecca's moving experience was quick and stress-free: "When I saw the house, I reserved it pretty much straight away. It just felt right. Abri were brilliant all the way through and kept me regularly updated which removed so much uncertainty. I spoke to Rob at the Abri Homes team and he helped me at each stage, lifting the weight off my shoulders and making the sale a smooth process. He was always happy to help.
"Fortunately, I had a £25,000 deposit available which meant I could secure one of the properties, and eight weeks later I was handed the keys and completed the purchase with a 40 per cent share of my own two-bedroom detached house. I couldn’t be any happier."
After settling in, Rebecca is delighted with her first home: “The finish of the home is immaculate. The attention to detail here is amazing and I’m so proud to call this home mine. I did my research, and that, backed up with the support from Abri, has made all this possible.”
